You Are What You Eat

If you aren’t reading labels and paying attention to ingredients on the food you purchase and intend to eat, you need to start.

NOW.

Last week I shared with you some commonly misunderstood gardening terms. This week I feel led to share the importance of making healthy choices at the grocery store.

Considering the epidemic health crisis that is blanketing our nation, it is vitally important that we take immediate steps to improve our eating habits. Because what we eat directly affects our health and wellbeing.

Did you know that according to Harvard Men’s Health Watch,

Estimates suggest that less than 30% of a person's lifetime risk of getting cancer results from uncontrollable factors. The rest you have the power to change, including your diet. Your dietary habits can promote cancer or protect against it.

And, High anti-oxidant foods are important for cancer prevention…choose different colored fruits and vegetables (oranges, beets, tomatoes, etc.) to get the...

Basic Gardening Terms You Should Know

If you aren’t familiar with gardening there are some terms that you may not understand. Because I want this process to be enjoyable, understanding certain references will make the development easier and give you more clarity.

Less stress equals more fun!

You can choose to start your vegetables from seed or purchase small plants in the Spring at your local nursery or hardware store. The easier choice would be the latter.

Seed starting can be enjoyable and rewarding, but realize that it requires proper shelving and sufficient room, ample lighting, heating, various equipment such as trays, potting soil, etc. And honestly, it can get messy.

I purchased a small, indoor, portable greenhouse with shelves. Waterproof heating mats (separate purchase) cover the shelves and keep my seedling trays warm.

Because I have been gardening literally for decades, I find it convenient to start some seeds indoors, buy some vegetable and herb plants in the...

Inspiration to Get You GROWING

The following vegetables, herbs and fruit are some of the most nutrient-dense and healthiest foods you can eat. And guess what? They’re easy to grow!

Power Greens

Dark, leafy greens KALE, SPINACH, and SWISS CHARD are some of the most nutritious foods that you can feed your family. These dark, leafy green vegetables contain many essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Lutein and zeaxanthin, which are carotenoids, vitamin K, vitamin C, calcium, folate and iron are also found in LEAFY GREEN VEGETABLES. These vegetables even contain protein!

The cancer-preventative and anti-inflammatory benefits of dark, leafy greens are noteworthy. Leafy greens are considered some of the most nutritious foods available.

And guess what, folks? Yup, you guessed it! They are super easy to grow in even a very small space! In my garden is a row of Dinosaur Kale (Nero di Toscana Cabbage) which has overwintered (not died back completely) for two years. So not only is this vegetable an...

Back to the Garden

Spring officially starts Tuesday, March 20th at 12:15 pm eastern time, but who's counting?

I've had enough of this winter and I need SPRING.

The season of awakening. Joy and flourishing.

What appeared to be dead now bursts into life. Resurrection envelops us in waves of green and yellow and blue.

The still, cold quiet now erupts into jubilant bird song.

As the garden awakes, the seeds of last year's harvest wake up and germinate, introducing a new generation of abundance!

Spring spreads the good news of Life!

What unexplainable bliss beckons me to the garden where I witness the most amazing miraculous transformations. The garden is more than magical. It is heavenly revelation.

God is pulling me back to the garden, my friends. He is wooing me with new and enticing promises of territories and adventures yet to be disclosed.

Although more threats of snow and ice fill the airwaves, I am not swayed.

I will cover, protect, and guard that which God has placed in my...

All Work and No Play

life rejuvenate success work Feb 21, 2018

 All Work and No Play

Every New Year I order planning books, calendars and assorted organizational tools with the goal of getting more things done!

I sit down and begin to map it all out - when, where, how. My big plan for the "new" year.

--- Clean and organize my office

--- Get ready for the taxes

--- Strategize for the landscape business and my  own personal business ventures

--- Execute my vision for online marketing, building an audience, creating content, etc.

--- Schedule for the kids in terms of school, vacation, career development, employment

The lists and calendars morph and change as quickly as the weather. But one thing remains the same.

I don't plan anything - personally - for me. The planning and organizing focus around business, finance, work, family objectives and...

Peace that Surpasses

health peace rest restore Feb 10, 2018

The PEACE that surpasses all understanding.

Tranquility and complete calmness.

Unless you seek with all your heart to seize that rare and invaluable treasure, it's likely you will not find it happenstance. Peace almost doesn't exist in our world.

These are the reasons for searching out the still, small voice. To restore the balance that the noise of this world has so ruthlessly remodeled. To bring back a piece of the original design.

Last month's toll on my health legitimately forced me to consider the importance of self-care (and I'm not talking about weekly pedicures here!).

God impressed on me that REST was an issue that required my immediate attention (see Healthy and Whole January 27, 2018). As I continued pressing in for guidance regarding my personal healthcare, revelation began to manifest about the condition of my soul. This story was new and unexpected. Virgin territory.

It was an eye opening and chain-breaking experience. The truth CAN set you...

The Still Small Voice

Lord, I want the ability to hear your voice.

The noise of this world is distracting and bothersome. The constant demands on my focus are knocking me off the path that leads to you.

I desire the peace that you provide. It overtakes the chatter in my head and the clamor in my soul. Surpassing all understanding, only you, Lord, can extinguish the discord and meaningless mix of sound that this world wants to drown me in!

Lord, I need to hear your voice.

The onslaught of sarcasm and cynicism....the waves of hatred and harlotry....the whispers of deception and deceitfulness....the torrents of lies and lasciviousness. Screams from every direction.

Show me, Lord, how to escape the madness.

"....And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire,...

Healthy and Whole

I am just getting over a flu-like illness: fever, sore throat, coughing and congestion, severe laryngitis, for the second time this month!

No, it's not the devil trying to shut my mouth (although he would revel in that!). It's a result of my lack of responsibility for my own health!

The past several months I have been surging ahead nonstop. Writing, editing, website development, podcasts, webinar attendance, marketing strategies....you name it. Not to mention my usual family duties and business obligations. The list is exhausting when I do stop to actually think about it. Combined with late nights and numerous early morning wake up calls (3am???).....the pace caught up with me.

After attending the funeral of my best friend's brother last week, I succumbed to the mother of all sore throats. Almost immediately, my voice was nonexistent. Twelve hours prior I was praying over Bella, confirming God's loving presence in her life. "You...

No More Complaining!

NO MORE COMPLAINING!

“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world…” Philippians 2:14-15 (NKJV)

Her picture jumped out at me on my newsfeed. Blond, blue eyed, late twenties, teeming with life and promise. But the headline slapped me back into reality. Young girl dies from rare form of cancer. What? Please, God, don’t let that be right. Now the article had my attention and I began reading the details:

AUSTRALIAN WOMAN WHO DIED AFTER BATTLING RARE CANCER HAD PENNED INSPIRATIONAL VIRAL LETTER: EACH DAY IS A GIFT

THAT’S THE THING ABOUT LIFE; IT IS FRAGILE, PRECIOUS AND UNPREDICTABLE AND EACH DAY IS A GIFT, NOT A GIVEN RIGHT

I’M 27 NOW. I DON’T WANT TO GO. I LOVE MY LIFE. I AM HAPPY…..

The Gift in Your Heart

God spoke and he said I have given each one of my children a gift. It is wrapped in the recesses of your heart. When you receive and open this gift, your destiny, my imprint on your life, will be revealed.

You have complete freedom to do anything you like with this gift.

You may live it out or pretend it doesn't exist. You may share it with the masses, or hide it from even yourself. You may choose to forget about it, or bring it into the world for all eyes to see, enjoy and benefit from.

God asks you today, what are you doing with the gift I have given you?

Has it been so long that you cannot recall the gift? Have you hidden it so deeply within your heart that you can't remember what the passion feels like? Is the gift a distant foreigner, a stranger that no longer holds your affection?

Time is short, my dear reader.

There is a destiny within us that our spirit longs to fulfill. But more often than not, or soul is in...
